We’re constantly bombarded by distraction and entertainment. This is called “programmed time,” and it’s when you’re being programmed by something. TV scheduling is even called programming. Very skilled people can use music cues, visuals, dialog, acting, and story to decide how their audience will feel while watching a movie. This is great. I love movies, TV and other media, but if 100% of your waking time is spent being entertained or distracted, then when do you have an opportunity to have your own thoughts and feelings?
